How does Voydar know where a cruise ship is?

From AIS observations received through public networks and Voydar’s own receivers. Voydar detects port calls when a ship stays inside a port for at least 30 minutes. Coverage varies by place and time. A missing position means Voydar has no recent observation; it does not establish whether the ship stopped transmitting.

Why is there no itinerary?

Future itineraries belong to the cruise lines and are not published under terms that allow reuse. Voydar shows what it can source: the current position, the ports each ship has called at, and a reported next port where the source's licence allows it.

How current is this page?

The page is rebuilt every 15 minutes and states the time of its data. Each ship's own page shows its latest position and port calls.

Voydar follows 317 ocean and expedition cruise ships from 32 cruise lines. As of Oct 1, 2026, 21:01 UTC, 120 were at sea and 22 were in port. For 175, Voydar received no AIS position in the previous 6 hours.

A ship is listed when a cruise line operates it (per Wikidata, or a correction Voydar made with a cited source) or Wikidata classes it as a cruise ship, and it has been heard on AIS in the last 180 days. Positions and port calls come from AIS; Voydar detects the port calls itself. See the methodology.

Questions

How does Voydar know where a cruise ship is?: From AIS observations received through public networks and Voydar’s own receivers. Voydar detects port calls when a ship stays inside a port for at least 30 minutes. Coverage varies by place and time. A missing position means Voydar has no recent observation; it does not establish whether the ship stopped transmitting.
Why is there no itinerary?: Future itineraries belong to the cruise lines and are not published under terms that allow reuse. Voydar shows what it can source: the current position, the ports each ship has called at, and a reported next port where the source's licence allows it.
How current is this page?: The page is rebuilt every 15 minutes and states the time of its data. Each ship's own page shows its latest position and port calls.
