Getting started

  1. Sign in and create a key under Account, API keys. The free Sandbox key has 2,500 credits a month. Create a key
  2. Send the key in the Authorization header on every request:

  3. Read the X-Credits-Remaining header, and show the "attribution" strings wherever you show the data.

Authentication

Send your key as "Authorization: Bearer sk_sdr_…". No other header or query parameter is accepted, so a key never lands in a URL or a shared cache. Keep keys on your server: never put one in a web page or a mobile app. Rotate a key if it leaks; the old secret stops working within a minute.

Entity lookups (vessel, port, company, flag, wreck) also answer without a key, from a shared cache, limited to 10 requests per minute per IP address. Search, lists and usage need a key. A request with an invalid key is refused, never served as keyless.
