VIETNAM: On 29 May at 1920 local time, one perpetrator boarded the anchored Liberia-flagged general cargo ship AAL MERKUR at Vung Tau Anchorage, near position 10-12N 107-03E. After noticing the perpetrator climbing over the ship’s railing, the duty crewman shouted at the person and raised the alarm. The perpetrator jumped into a wooden boat and escaped with two accomplices. The master reported to the company security officer that nothing had been stolen.

VIETNAM: On 6 November at 0150 local time, robbers boarded the Portugal-flagged general cargo ship ELISABETH OLDENDORFF anchored at Vung Tau Anchorage, near position 10-13N 107-00E. After the boarding, a duty watchman noticed footprints on the deck and saw the paint locker padlock broken and ship’s stores missing. The alarm was raised, the crew mustered and they searched the vessel. The ship reported the incident to port authorities.

The master reported that one small boat was sighted alongside the ship. While onboard, the robbers stole approximately 100 liters of paint. The crew members were safe following the incident.

VIETNAM: On 17 April at 0030 local time, robbers boarded a container ship drifting at Ho Chi Minh Anchorage, near position 10-09N 107-09E. Robbers boarded the vessel and escaped with ship’s stores without being detected. Duty crew members discovered the theft during routine rounds when they found that the paint locker padlock and ship’s stores were missing. The ship reported the incident to port control; however, no response was received.

VIETNAM: On 6 December, four robbers boarded a barge under tow by a Singapore-flagged tug in the Vung Tau Anchorage area, near position 10-10N 107-02E. After two of the perpetrators were spotted, the master requested the assistance of a nearby patrol vessel. The patrol vessel approached and discovered an additional two perpetrators transferring scrap metal from the barge. The four perpetrators were detained and admitted to stealing from foreign ships in the area.

Duty crew spotted a small boat near the bows and informed the duty officer. The alarm was raised and the crew mustered. A search revealed the paint locker had been broken into and ship’s stores stolen.
