コンテナ船ACX CRYSTALは、船長、二等航海士及び甲板手ほか17人が乗り組み、京浜港東京区に向けて静岡県南伊豆町石廊埼南東方沖を北東進中、ミサイル駆逐艦USS FITZGERALDは、艦長、当直士官3人及び甲板手ほか288人が乗り組み、石廊埼南東方沖を南進中、平成29年6月17日01時30分34秒ごろ、両船が衝突した。 USS FITZGERALDは、乗組員7人が死亡、3人が負傷し、右舷艦体中央前部外板の破口等を生じて浸水し、ACX CRYSTALは左舷船首部ブルワークの曲損等を生じた。
