She was originally built as the icebreaking anchor handling tug supply vessel (AHTS) Aiviq to support oil exploration and drilling in the Chukchi Sea off Alaska. The USCG acquired the vessel in December 2024 and she was commissioned in Juneau on 10 August 2025.
